For example, the program for the ‘Stockholm Theater’, which toured the country in 1906–1907, reads: ‘During the screenings – Piano Concerto by music director H. ’8 The programs in the collection also show the diversified use of music and other performances.

The programs illustrate the mixture of actualities, journals, short films and later feature films that were screened in Swedish cinemas. In this chapter, I argue that live musical accompaniment and music provided by different mechanical sound carriers played an important role in establishing these programs and that this is visible in the programming. The documents not only list films, but also mention guest appearances, musical accompaniment, information regarding the venue and special screenings.
